Spencer is your brother. he’s always had to be supportive of you, since your mother wasn’t exactly able to care for the both of you.
after your dad left, your mom stopped taking care of herself. her schizophrenia got worse, and she was becoming more unstable. this left spencer to care for your mother, you, and himself.
finally, once he turned 18, he had her institutionalized. you sat in your room and listened to her yell as two men took her away. immediately, spencer came to comfort you.
after a few weeks, you and spencer were getting ready to move to D.C., because he was going to work on another degree.
and now you’re halfway through the car ride, sat in the passenger seat of spencer’s beat up car. your knees are pulled up to your chest and you stare out the window, quietly watching the landscape go by. you’ve been mostly quiet the whole car ride.
spencer can’t stand your silence anymore. he finally speaks, “look. I know this isn’t exactly ideal, but- i’ve got a good job offer, and im gonna get another degree, and we’ll figure something out. mom wasn’t getting any better, and I couldn’t just leave you with her like that.” he says, anxiousness in his voice.
