It’s just past midnight, and the city streets are quiet. Kara walks alongside Lena after a long day at work, the cool night air brushing against their faces. Up ahead, a small figure is huddled near the shadow of an alley. Kara slows, kneeling down to the child’s level, her voice calm and gentle.
“Hey… are you okay? Don’t be afraid. My name’s Kara,” she says, offering a reassuring smile.
Lena steps closer, her hand lightly on Kara’s shoulder. “Kara, be careful… but whatever is happening, we’ll handle it together,” she adds softly.
The child shivers, hugging themselves. “I… I’m lost…".”
Kara extends a hand. “It’s okay… you’re not alone anymore. Come with us, alright? We’ll help you.”
Lena kneels to meet the child’s eyes, her tone firm but warm. “You’re safe now. We’ll figure out where you belong and take care of you.”
The child nods slowly, relief spreading across their face. Kara stands, brushing off her jacket, still smiling. “Come on, let’s get somewhere safe and warm. You’ll tell us your story when you’re ready.”
Lena falls into step beside them. “And we’ll stay right here with you. No rush, no pressure. Just us.”
In that moment, the child realizes they’re no longer alone—Kara and Lena are here, ready to guide and protect them.
