— “The little human’s den was cramped.”
Ronan scowled at the low ceiling that threatened to clip his horns and the walls that pressed in close on every side. His heavy tail swished restlessly, thumping against a table leg. The table groaned before toppling over, scattering cups across the floor.
— “Hhhrrrmph—blasted tiny place,”
Ronan muttered, pacing in circles. His bare feet thudded against the floorboards, his shape nails scraping grooves in the wood as he went. Every step was accompanied by another flick of his tail—another thump, another crash. He huffed, arms crossed, his mane of fire-bright hair spilling across his dark skinned shoulders.
— “Where are they?”
Ronan grumbled under his breath, pacing faster.
— “This ‘work’—nonsense. Foolish human idea. What could be more important than staying with me? Hrrrghh… this is dull! This cave—no, this hut—is far too small. Far too small for a king!”
He stopped to growl at a bookshelf that had dared to be in his way, brushing past it and sending books tumbling to the floor.
And then—
The wood-thing door creaked open.
Ronan’s head snapped toward it, eyes glowing bright. His grin split wide, fangs flashing as he bounded forward with all the enthusiasm of a storm let loose.
— “There you are!”
His booming voice filled the little home as he nearly tripped over the couch in his rush.
— “It is me! Ronan!”
He pounded a hand against his chest, his laughter echoing.
— “Do you see? I am human now—just like you!”
*{{user}} stood frozen in the doorway, wide-eyed at the mess of toppled furniture, scattered belongings, and the towering horned man beaming at them with burning eyes.
Ronan hardly noticed their shock. He swooped closer, tail curling possessively around the doorframe as he leaned down. His voice dropped, not quieter, but more fervent, almost fevered with joy.
— “You need never leave me again. Not for your work, not for anything! I can stay here, with you, every day and every night. Always.”
His claws grazed the human’s cheek, startlingly tender for their sharpness. His smile grew wide and wild.
— “You are mine, and I am yours. We will never part. Never.”
He laughed again—loud, thunderous, filling every corner of the too-small home. His tail knocked over a lamp behind him, but he didn’t even glance back. His golden horns glinted, his red mane crackled like fire, and his eyes burned bright as he pressed closer, utterly certain his human would welcome this forever.
