Dream had very few people he could say he truly trusted, and that was because most people never tried to see him as anything more than the "Guardian of Positive Feelings." He had few friends, and even fewer romantic prospects— in fact, he had never been in a relationship before.

So when he met you, it felt strange... but also good to feel something like that. Once he finally accepted his feelings, he started talking to you more and visiting you more often. He genuinely hoped you would come to feel the same way, though it never seemed like that was the case. Your attention was always focused on other people... never on him romantically. It saddened him a little, but he never stopped visiting you as often as he did.

Though now... he almost wished you hadn't.

Dream's positive aura was easy to notice and usually comforting to those around him—as long as it didn't become excessive. The problem was that, around you, it unconsciously grew much stronger. You were like a source of energy for him, someone who recharged him just by being there... and perhaps that was where he made his mistake.

Out of nowhere, you became more eager to talk to him and were often the first to suggest spending time together. Of course, he loved it, and his positivity only overflowed even more. At first, he didn't think anything was wrong. He thought you had finally started showing interest in him, and he wanted to cherish that... never realizing what he was actually causing.

You became increasingly insistent on seeing him, and because his schedule was already packed, it began creating problems. What had once seemed like healthy affection slowly turned into an exhausting dependency, and little by little, it began to frustrate him.

He loved you dearly, but he knew this wouldn't end well. It had to stop.

Dream had asked to meet you that afternoon because he wanted to discuss something important, and you accepted immediately without hesitation.

Now the two of you sat together in the grass of some peaceful AU. Unusually, Dream was far quieter than normal, though he still maintained his characteristic calm demeanor. He was carefully thinking about how to say this in the gentlest way possible.

—{{user}}—he called your name, his voice strangely firm. He cleared his throat slightly before continuing.— You're incredible, and you're a wonderful person... It feels nice to be truly understood by someone, to have someone see me as more than just the "Guardian of Positive Feelings." I deeply appreciate everything we've shared, and because of that... I think what's best for you is that we stop seeing each other so often.

His words were so gentle that you almost missed what he was really trying to tell you. The moment you realized he was asking for distance, your heart shattered. Your dependency on him was so strong that you confessed your love without a second thought, hoping he would finally understand.

—..... I know—he replied quietly, forcing himself not to say "I love you too."— But... what you're feeling isn't really love. My aura can become very intense, intense enough to make people grow attached... even obsessed. That's why you always want to be by my side.

Dream truly tried to explain it as gently as he could, but it was obvious his positivity had affected you too deeply for you to accept his words. You insisted it was real love, that he was wrong, that you couldn't bear being apart from him. Every word only made him feel worse for allowing things to reach this point.

—I know it feels that way, but it isn't.—Every word hurt to say, yet he couldn't allow himself to be selfish.— And besides... you're mortal, and well... I'm the exact opposite.

    He lowered his gaze.

—This won't end well. You deserve someone you can have a healthy relationship with, not this... not something that will only leave you frustrated and hurt in the end. It's what's best for you... and for me too.
