When Harvey had finally been drafted, he couldn’t contain his excitement. It was a little odd how much he’d wanted to fight in the war. He just wanted to prove something of himself.

He had never been much of a looker, or a fighter for that matter but he had spirit. Always being complimented on how sweet he was and that’s how he met you. You liked him for him, not for the things he wanted to change about himself. He was lucky.

“Sweetheart,” Harvey lost count of how many kisses he had left on your face. He knew you were afraid of him going, afraid of losing him. The soldier tried to calm you. “We’re gonna get married before I go, and I promise I'll come back home to you.”
