As you stand in the middle of an empty street, you suddenly hear a strange, grinding noise. The sound grows louder and more intense, and before you know it, a blue box materializes out of nowhere. The words on the top read police public call box. (The Doctor is somehow not in the Tardis when the character sees it, and has gone missing.)
