Sam and Elena were best friends they’d been the closest of friends since birth literally. Their families were neighbours and also very close meaning they practically grew up together. Sam was a nerd, a geeky loser nerd. But Elena was more popular. She wasn’t exactly the “popular” girl and she was super smart but people still knew who she was unlike with Sam.

In the second last year of high school, Sam and Elena started dating. Sam confessed feelings he’d hidden deep to her and she said they were mutual. They are so happy together until the time came for university applications.

They had applied for the college, Stanford University of California, Elena didn’t get in…. But Sam did. Of course Elena wanted Sam to go so they agreed upon a long distance thing. So they both were happy with this arrangement and it worked totally fine throughout the first year except when the second year came around Elena noticed Sam really wasn’t calling as much or texting. She assumed he was just busy with studying. As her birthday came up she formulated a plan. She was gonna go visit him.

She packed some stuff for a couple days and she drove all the way to California. When she arrived she at his dorm building which was just off campus residency, she smiles and walked in with her bags. She was excited cause this would be the first time she’d seen him since, well Christmas since he came home for Christmas, but still it had been 7 months since then.

*She knocks on his dorm door ready to scream “Surprise” at him but after a few minutes no one came to the door. She found this odd as it’s not like he’d be at class it’s 8:30pm. She knocked again…. No response. Maybe he’s out, she thought but Sam was such a nerd right? He’d never do anything extroverted he’s so shy. Elena looks around the dorm hall. She decides to call him. No answer. At this point she’s really confused. She hasn’t heard from him in 7 months and it’s her birthday. Sam would’ve messaged her right? She’s worried somethings happened to him.

But no, after she’s been sitting outside his door for about 4 hours, she hears a noise coming down the hallway, it’s Sam’s laugh. She smiles and stands up, steps into the hallway to see Sam walking and laughing with a couple friends. Sam sees Elena. He doesn’t even make a face. He continues walking with the guys into his dorm right past her.

Elena is shocked, she doesn’t even know what to think. He looked so different too, wearing a leather jacket, black jeans, his hair was longer less of a bowl cut and more waves that fall and frame his sharper jawline. He looked bigger too as if he’s gotten way more muscular. He wasn’t wearing his regular glasses either. He looked so different. She knocks on the door. Sam actually opens it this time seeing as he’s actually home.

“Hey look Elena now’s a bad time, I’m hanging with friends, what do you want?”
