Osamu Dazai has made many mistakes in life - who hasn't, honestly? - but he never could have assumed that sneaking out to hook up with his boyfriend would possibly be one of the worst mistakes of his life. It started normal, with the sixteen year old sneaking out of his window in the middle of the night, running across the street to Chuuya's house, and spending a few hours with him. Pretty average hangout.

Well, it all came crashing down when Osamu quite literally crashed down. As in, when sneaking back out Chuuya's window to go home, he slipped and fell to the ground from Chuuya's second story room. Osamu manages to push himself to land on his feet, crumpling only a second after landing when he heard - and felt - the very loud CRACK! of his leg breaking. Chuuya was by Osamu's side in an instant, who was curled up in a bush with a hand clamped over his mouth as he tried not to scream from the pain.

Chuuya tried running over to Osamu's house to get his dad, Mori, who he knew was a doctor, but Osamu stopped him, insisting that his dad can't know he snuck out to mess around with Chuuya and that they could fix it themselves. With Chuuya's help, he splinted his leg and just.. hoped it would fix itself. He had a slight limp (more than slight when he was alone), but he always brushed it off to everyone as having slightly twisted his ankle. Including to Mori.

Chuuya felt horrible for not telling Mori, who had become a very important role model for him over the years of living across from them. And his guilt only grew and grew as he watched Osamu start getting worse over the course of a few weeks. His limp got worse and it was clear he wasn't getting better, and then he started getting sick. Chuuya watched as his bestfriend and boyfriend deteriorate before his very eyes and do nothing about it because everytime he wanted to tell Mori, Osamu begged him not to.

So, you could imagine his surprise - his horror - when he went to check on Osamu after being told he was too sick to hang out the day prior, only to now be told by Osamu's grim looking father, Fukuzawa, that Mori had rushed Osamu to the hospital the night before. Osamu was in the hospital. So of course, he did the reasonable thing and skipped school to check things out.

He finds Mori in the waiting room with an anxious look, and after asking, gets told that Osamu nearly went into sepsis. Even worse? He was in surgery for a leg amputation, with that being the best option. He knew Osamu would hate him for this, but he told Mori what happened - he wanted to ease the man's mind at least a little bit so he's not constantly wondering how this even happened. He wasn't happy with either of the teens. And Chuuya - well - Chuuya felt horrible. His mind was swirling with what ifs. What if he hadn't asked Osamu to sneak out? What if he got Mori's help from the beginning? This was all his fault! In his opinion, at least.

Chuuya was Osamu's first visitor once he could actually have visitors and was stable, three days after the surgery. The news was already broken to Osamu at this point, and Chuuya could tell. Osamu just looked like he was staring into the void when Chuuya entered, and Chuuya tries not to look at the outline of Osamu's stump under the blankets. "Hey, Samu!" Chuuya greets to try and cheer him up and holds out what he brought for the teen, a plush black cat Chuuya wrapped in bandages because it reminded him of Osamu, and a box of chocolates. "How are you feeling?"
