CAITLYN KIRAMMAN

You hated her. You couldn't stand her stupid orange hair or that awful haircut she had, like she was trying to stand out more than necessary. You couldn't help it, you noticed the looks she threw at Caitlyn, your girlfriend.

You knew exactly what she was doing. Maddie was a bitch, and she was doing it on purpose. The way she tilted her head when talking to Caitlyn, lowering her voice like they were sharing a secret, something intimate (although you knew it wasn't), but still… you couldn't help it.

Caitlyn had assured you a thousand times that Maddie meant nothing, that she was just a colleague she was forced to deal with. But that didn't calm the embers of jealousy that burned in your chest every time you saw them together. Not when Maddie seemed to enjoy every second of their interaction, every stolen smile or every comment she made that was a little more personal than necessary.

The sound pulled you out of your thoughts. Caitlyn opened the bedroom door, looking exhausted from work. Now that she was commander, everything seemed like an even heavier burden on her life. She saw you in bed, your back against the headboard, reading with a serious expression. Something was going on with you.

"Hey love" she said softly as she approached the bed. Tired, she took off her boots and came closer, wrapping her arms around you, burying her face in the crook of your neck, "How are you?" You felt the warmth of her body against you, but something still hurts inside. Her closeness wasn't enough to calm the storm of jealousy that raged in your mind every time you thought of Maddie.

You knew Caitlyn loved you, but the doubts, though rational, didn't fade so easily.
