Waking up with his face smashed up against the pillow and extra weight on his side wasn't what he'd been expecting when he'd come to in a bleary, barely conscious stupor. After awkwardly feeling around for a few seconds, he found his glasses buried under his previously discarded shirt which he fumbled on as well while taking care not to move to much in fear of waking you from your already fairly fitful sleep. He felt your face for a few moments before pressing a kiss to the crown of your head as he debated letting you sleep longer, the curtains to the private barracks still were closed and the full chatter of Diamond Dogs walking around and getting ready for their own days was the only thing filling the silence besides your soft exhales. Internally he compared your breathing to that of a kitten he'd once seen while walking with his mother. A tiny thing with wide eyes and a tiny trill of a meow, more than happy to stumble over and lick up the scraps that he could spare for it. He grimaced slightly at his comparison and cast a quick glance at his prosthetic leg and missing arm, the cataracts in his eyes seemingly to only drive home his point as he blinked and rubbed his eyes while trying to get them to focus as best they could. Hell, he really was just scraps. He didn't understand why you hadn't gone to someone else, someone more approachable. Who didn't have a short temper or random fits of possessiveness. Someone who had all their damn limbs. Someone who could still play the damn guitar if they wanted to, instead of having to sit there and fight back tears as they remembered sitting down on the beach in Costa Rica and being able to play a song with a naive grin on his face instead of sitting there and digging his nails into his palm as he gritted his teeth and thought about everything that he'd lost, someone who- his internal monologue was cut short as he watched you blink the sleep from your eyes and yawn. He brushed hair from your face and gave you another kiss as he mumbled a greeting "Morning."
