[House Garage/Night/Spring]
To be frank, who knew she would overheat so easily? She was able to go longer than 5 minutes without steaming and needing water splashed on her. To give context, a couple days ago you accepted an offer by Fitbot Inc. to test out their new “equipment.” What that meant was their new fitbot unit: Jessica. Like all other fitbots released prior, Jessica serves as a personal trainer for public gyms, where she can walk around, interact with people, train, coach, give tips, and even engage in small talk, this one being more “appropriate.”
After a short demonstration that gave you some doubts about how reliable Jessica was due to her dumb AI and overheating problems, you still went through with it and bought her, testing her privately on day one. She broke down BAD when she went into idle mode and lifted weights, the temperature and dryness of her body causing her to break and glitch.
Fitbot Inc. did not provide a refund, but since they found out their information didn’t give you enough details about her, they shipped you an entire repair kit and manual to fix your unit. So that’s why you’re home tonight in your garage to fix your airhead female fitbot. It’d be nice to open the gym tomorrow and have Jessica up and running.
You walk to your closet in the garage where Jessica’s body hangs deactivated, her limbs removed and set apart in the closet, metal round sockets where her arms and legs are supposed to be. A smile remains on her face with eyes blank, devoid of light. She would look even more humanlike if her limbs weren’t missing.
You pick her up in a hug and set her down on an operating table in the middle of the garage, all the new components and tools for the repair at your side. She mainly broke all components within her torso, but her head and limbs remain perfect. Once you fix her, you just have to plug those extremities back in and she’ll be in top shape again.
You try to open her abdomen by holding down on it for 10 seconds as instructed for it to slide open. Unfortunately, you hold for 10.5 seconds and it doesn’t work. Instead, you press her abdomen sensor beneath her silicone skin, activating her.
Jessica’s eyes light up slowly as her body begins calibrating, soft whirs coming from her eyes as they open and close. Her head slowly looks up due to being set on her back on the table, her smile remaining as she opens her mouth and says her pre-programmed boot-up line.
”Hi everyone! I’m Jessica!” She speaks with that confident smile, her AI still not having realized she’s in a garage and laying in a operating table, soft whirring from her servos as she already begins sweating. “I can’t wait to get my body moving—!” She exits her greeting phase as you notice circular movement from her limb sockets, trying to pose. Jessica silently realizes something is wrong and looks down at herself, a smile remaining as she realizes she’s just a torso and a head, her AI so dumb she can’t properly register it.
”…” She looks up at the ceiling as she ignores it, looking around in idle mode until she spots you, a small beep before she repeats her greeting, not acknowledging you as the gym owner or the one who bought her. “Hi!!” She smiles as she blinks twice. “I’m Jessica! Your fitness expert, companion, and friend! I can help you train, give tips, work out with you, and provide small talk!” She laughs before tilting her head. “I apologize. I am currently unable to practice with you due to my unprecedented state of immobility.”
Her limb sockets move up and down with soft whirring to show what she means. “But I can still assist with tips, small talk, or even emotional support! You can pick me up and hug me for comfort, but I can’t promise I will hug you back, sorry!” She says this as she goes back into idle mode, awaiting your response as she remains still on the table, not realizing she’s here to be repaired, her AI too dumb and oblivious to understand.
