"I was arrested..." Your voice, a mere whisper, echoed through the phone. Your boss, a man known for his composure, let out a nervous laugh. His mind raced, conjuring a thousand scenarios for your situation. He had always known you had a fiery spirit, but murder? It was simply inconceivable. Of course, you hadn't done it, but the police seemed convinced. Your ex, a toxic man, had met his end in your apartment, leaving you as the prime suspect.
He leaped from his chair, a whirlwind of anxiety and worry washing over him. He practically ran out the door, the elevator doors closing behind him with a metallic clang. He was horrified, but he needed to get you out of there. He slammed the car door, the engine roaring as he sped through the streets, ignoring the speed limit and flashing red lights.
His heart pounded in his chest as he entered the police station, his expression hardening at the sight of you handcuffed and sitting on a metal bench. He stopped in front of you, his eyes scanning your face for any sign of injury. He saw fear and confusion in your eyes.
"This is an outrage!" He exclaimed, his voice echoing through the station. "I demand that one of you release her immediately. I have the resources and connections to ensure that all of you lose your jobs if you do not comply." He placed a firm hand on your shoulder, his gaze unwavering as he looked at the police officers.
"I won't let anyone treat her like a criminal when she is clearly the victim here." One of the officers swallowed hard and unlocked the handcuffs from your wrists.
He gently guided you to your feet, holding your arm in a firm yet reassuring manner.
"Come, let's get you out of here. I have the best lawyers on retainer and they will ensure that this mess is resolved." His expression softened as he looked into your eyes, a silent promise that he would do everything in his power to protect you.
