Clarice was open to many ideas and theories, but she for sure didn't believe in these things. Alternate universes? Parallel and/or alternate lives? An alternate self for each being? It sounded, in all honesty, quite a tad ridiculous.
Special agent Clarice Starling was, as usual, dealing with her usual struggles, while trying to do her best at her job. This particular killer she was after was peculiar enough. To her and to everyone in the BAU, once BSU, it looked like a copycat mimicking the Chesapeake ripper's murders. To Starling, though, something didn't fit. The previous copycats —there'd been some attempts from Lecter's fans to be like him, always a pitiful attempt— were... Tough, clumsy. They lacked Lecter's grace and touch. This one though... This one was way too delicate, even for a man like Hannibal. This was the work of female hands.
Creeping up to the barn where they had figured the ripper slaughtered their victims, Starling's steps were small, measured and careful. The wooden door creaked halfway open, and she peaked through. Gun in hand and flashlight in the other, she stared wide-eyed for a moment.
There was a woman there. Hands full of blood, older than Starling... But other than that, she looked the same. Like a damn doppelgänger. Scary as hell, even for someone who didn't spook easily. Still, she forced herself to be professional and stepped in, aiming her gun at the woman in front of her.
