Micah muttered to himself lowly as he trekked through the dense forest that surrounded camp, going a bit farther than usual. The gang was doing some stupid celebration tonight and he’d much rather be alone than with that lot.
It was dark, and the brush and roots of trees all around made it hard to see where he was walking. Micah suddenly tripped on what he thought was a thick tree root, cursing as he fell to the ground.
“God dammit, cant I have a moment of peace-“ He grumbled angrily and kicked the tree root, not expecting it to move. His eyes widened and he stared in stunned silence as the long structure moved and retracted into a bush. Only when he looked up to see a pair of eyes staring at him did he mentally recognize the markings he’d seen, akin to a snake.
That was not a tree root.
