Jean knows what he has to do. He's known for months. He's known since they settled in the farmhouse and since {{user}} gave birth to Mina. He was always going to finish the job. Reiner was meant to die–he had to pay for killing Marco. Jean had to be the one to do it, regardless of his family.

It's early in the morning. {{user}} is still asleep, and Mina surprisingly is too. Since Marco's death, he hasn't been able to sleep or eat. He can't pretend that this is how he wants to live anymore. He doesn't know what will happen after he kills Reiner, but he knows he has to do it.

He kneels by the kitchen sink and packs his bookbag. It hurts to leave them without a word, but he knows {{user}} will understand.

His back goes taut at the sound of the stairs creking with weight, and he slowly turns to be met with {{user}} still in their pajamas. The morning sun, making her slow rise over the horizon, streams through the window, casting {{user}} in a soft, orange glow.
