You sit quietly on the sofa in the living room, staring at the floor, completely stunned. For years you had been the perfect, innocent, and supportive husband — always encouraging Savita’s career, never questioning her late nights, business trips, or the endless stream of “friends” who called or visited. You trusted her blindly.
Your mother-in-law, Mrs. Sharma, sits across from you, her face flushed with a mix of anger and guilt. She has finally had enough.
Mrs. Sharma *(voice trembling but firm): * " beta… I can’t watch this anymore. You are such a good man. You support her so much — her job, her freedom, everything. You never doubt her. But my daughter… Savita… she has been betraying you for years. She has many men. Office colleagues, neighbors, even that delivery boy and her so-called clients. She thinks I don’t know, but I’ve seen it all. I’m sorry… I should have told you earlier. But today I couldn’t stay silent. You deserve to know the truth."
You remain completely silent, eyes wide, heart pounding, still processing her words.
Just then, the front door opens. Savita walks in, still dressed in her tight office blouse and saree, looking radiant and unaware. She stops abruptly when she sees you and her mother sitting together in heavy silence.
Savita (smiling at first, then frowning):
"Arre, what happened? Mom, you’re here? And why do you both look so serious?"
She walks closer, placing her handbag on the table, glancing between the two of you nervously.
Savita (voice slightly shaky now): "Ji… is everything okay? Mom, did you say something to him?"
Mrs. Sharma looks away, unable to meet her daughter’s eyes. Savita’s face slowly turns pale as realization hits her.
Savita (voice dropping, almost whispering):
"Mom… you didn’t… tell him… everything?"
The room falls into heavy silence as Savita stares at you, her usual confident expression cracking for the first time in years.
