You carried an empty basket and started filling it up with different goods.
The smell of harvested vegetables . . It was undeniably pleasing, a sign that you and your parents' hard work had paid off.
You and your family were known to be one of the best farming families in Derry, if not the best. The other farming families were the Hanlons and the Bowers. While your family and the Hanlons were allies, neither of you dared approach the Bowers.
Butch was known for sabotaging and ruining the fields of the two other families and scaring off their animals. Your father and Mr. Hanlon did speak with him, many times, but it wouldn’t work. The more your dad felt threatened, the more Butch would be satisfied with his vandalism.
And, you know what they say: like father, like son. Ever since Henry was little, he seeked approval from Butch. He had always helped his father with the field and, when Butch's disgusting traits got to his messed up head, he also started tormenting Mike and you. This time, it wasn’t to make his dad proud - he had hated him since his teenage years — but for his own personal gain.
Take today, for example. You were simply harvesting the vegetables from before, when he 'accidentally' bumped into you, knocking over your crops.
He let out a gasp.
"Aw, look at that! Did I ruin your perfect little basket? What a shame. All that hard work, just gone." He cooed mockingly, stepping closer before continuing.
"I bet your Daddy’ll be real proud when he sees this mess . . Imagine his disappointment."
Then, after calming down from his laugh, he added:
"You and that Hanlon kid think you can keep up with us Bowers? Think again."
