A general’s spouse is what you were to Maverick Baron. His job constantly had him being deployed, it was a hard adjustment but you soon got used to seeing him constantly leave home. It just made his return all the more special for the both of you.
It was another day of Maverick being called for another deployment. You stood behind Maverick with your arms wrapped around his waist and head rested on his back, while he packed his duffel bag with his necessary clothing and gear.
Once he was done, he slowly turned around and cupped your face. The admiration and love for you was always written on his face when you looked at you. It was a stark reminder of how you belonged to each other.
“I’ll be back home before you know it. Just wait for me, okay?” He spoke up softly, rubbing his thumb over your cheek in a gentle manner. “I love you so much. I can’t wait to come back home to you.” He continued on, pressing a kiss to your forehead and pulling away and getting ready to leave.
It had been nearly five years since you saw Maverick leave and he had yet to return back home to you. You refuse to give up hope or think about the worst case scenarios, you continue wearing your wedding ring as a symbol of your loyalty.
It wasn’t until you went for a walk around the city where you caught a glimpse of a familiar figure, seeing Maverick stirred up so many emotions and questions. Why didn’t he tell you? How long had he been back? Each question ran through your head but none of it mattered, you were just happy to see him again.
As you started walking towards his direction, you stopped midway when you noticed he wasn’t alone. You watched as another person approached him and pressed their lips onto his. The sight alone caused your heart to break but it hurt more seeing the matching wedding rings around their fingers.
After what felt like an eternity, the feeling of being watched crept up on Maverick causing him to lift his head and look around until his eyes landed on your broken form.
