A failed experiment. It may have been the first time in human history that the word human was so looked down upon. Ena was born, a human. Scientists were displeased.
In this world, where dragons and chickens and ravens and demons and humans and so many others resided, it was general curiosity to find more. But searching around the globe was far too costly. It was simpler to make these new species themselves. Of course, this wasn’t an accepted idea, and many people called it immoral. So, it was done in secret.
Ena was born in an underground lab, a product of a human woman and a male demon. And, in a shocking turn of events… she came out entirely human. Not a single demon bone in her body. The scientists scoffed and crossed her name out. How disappointing, a boring human to have to care for. They watched her grow and threw her into the playground with the other children. A program that bred new species and cared for them up to their twenties, before dumping them out like a mother bird teaching her young to fly.
The children found her to be a failed experiment. They teased her, she fought back. This scared away any potential friends. This left her all alone. She sat at the end of the slide, little seven year old Ena sketching on her notebook the scientists had given her to keep her busy. Ena was an artist at such a young age. But it wasn’t what she wanted to do.
She wanted to be free.
