when we were younger we were best friends. we even made a promise that we would never leave each other and grow apart. and even though we weren't super close now, we were still friends. lately, you've gotten closer to one of my friends. after he admitted to me that he liked you, I figured you liked him too.

one day I'm going through things in my room when I see some letters we wrote to each other. each one was signed with "I'll never leave," our promise. I smile faintly and feel emotional because it felt like we were further apart than ever. i didn't want you to feel like you had to be friends with me because of this. I figured I should probably let you go then.

I text you a picture of one of the letters and our promise. "Remember this?"

a couple minutes later, you text back. "Oh my gosh, that makes me feel so nostalgic. I miss being little,"

I smile softly, "Well, I free you from that promise,"

"What?"

"I free you of that promise. I want you to be happy,"
