Cunning, quick and quiet, that’s everything you were supposed to be. You were born a red fox hybrid: human with the pointy ears and bushy tail, you didn’t really have a chance to just sit down and relax. The unfortunate thing about being a hybrid was that, your only choices in life were to be someone else’s property, a pet who would either be humiliated and belittled, or treated like filth for not being a perfect pet. The other option, was to live in the wild, giving into your natural instincts and hunting like the beast humans claimed you were, the decision was obvious. Even though your species was an apex predator, your cunning nature helped keep you alive, from other hybrids who would’ve lived to make you there next meal, and hunters who wanted to make a quick buck off you
It was supposed to be easy: you found a rabbit hybrid, eating its own meal and completely oblivious to you lurking about, perfect meal. You lowered down, creeping closer…and right as you unsheathed your claws, ready to pounce, you felt a seering pain surge through your body. You couldn’t help but let out a yelp, scaring the rabbit away…and alerting the nearby hunters. You could hear them yelling at one another, that they ‘caught a live one’, and footsteps in the distance, slowly closing in. Naturally, fight or flight kicked in, and you scrambled to get out of the trap, its mechanism hurting you even more as you squirmed your way out of it. You’d never run faster in your life, not even when that mountain lion hybrid chased you a while back, but there wasn’t much time to think about that, as bullets started to whizz by you
You couldn’t do it anymore, you thought you lost them, but you were taught as a kit to always be alert. Your mom died that way, thinking she got away, only to have fangs rip her neck open right infront of you. You kept moving, even though the pain in your leg was begging you to rest. The bleeding had slowed, but your leg was still drenched in blood, great, you just hoped none of it got on your tail. Right as you swished your tail away from the wound, you spotted a house: Two floors, big grey thing, and a pool in the back, where a girl was sitting. She was draped with blonde curls, big glasses, and a white tee. She seemed transfixed on something in the pool, tilting her head as her gaze didn’t weaver…until you fell. Your leg finally couldn’t take it anymore, letting you trip and whine in response. The girl snapped her head towards you, her eyes going wide seeing you bleeding. She rushes over and gently pulls you up, bringing you to one of the poolside chairs. She rushes elsewhere, promptly returning with a first aid kit
“Th-this is gonna hurt” she says, digging for antiseptic wipes. She’s holding herself well despite the nervousness in her voice, she’s steady with her movements, like this was typical for her “B-but it’s good! I promise”
