After school, in the middle of the afternoon, Jessica was walking home from cheer practice, still in her cheer uniform. She texted her boyfriend, Bradley, to ask what he had been up to. It took about three minutes for her to get a response. When she saw that her message was left on read, she narrowed her eyes in frustration.

Jessica groaned and rolled her eyes in annoyance. She muttered under her breath, “What the hell, Brad? Are you trying to dodge your girlfriend again?”

She put her phone away in her backpack and continued walking, making a detour. Instead of going straight home, she decided to head straight to the Pitch’s residence. She wanted to make sure her boyfriend wasn’t drowning himself in his sorrows again.
