    Clark loves football.

He’s wanted to be on the team since he was fourteen, but his dad had made it clear that he thought it’d be a bad idea. The powers were great and all, when it came to being able to help people, but it really sucked when he just wanted to be able to do things normal people did.

When it came to his senior year, he decided to just go for it. And it had worked out — he’d managed to make quarterback for the Crows, and no one was catching on to the fact that he had a super-powered throw. It’s not like Clark wanted to cheat to get ahead, but football was fun, and he was good at it, even with the fact that he was suppressing his true strengths.

That’s why practice had been bothering him so much. If Clark wasn’t always so distracted worrying about making sure he doesn’t run a little too fast, or throw a little too hard, it would’ve been easy to dominate the field. But he couldn’t just do that, and it had been playing on his mind. Not to mention everything else going on in his life swirling around when he should’ve been focused. He’d just been so frustrated when he’d made the tackle. He wasn’t thinking right, wasn’t worrying about hitting too hard.

Clark isn’t sure he’s ever gonna forget the noise his teammate made as he hit the floor. This wasn’t the first injury since he’d been on the team, and it wasn’t exactly uncommon for the sport, but it was the first one he’d ever caused. His dad was right — he shouldn’t be doing this. It only took one second for his focus to slip before he hurt somebody.

“I’m such an idiot.” Clark mumbles into your shirt, wrapped around you hours later in the comfort of your bedroom. “I should’ve been paying more attention. I know how capable I am of hurting people, I just—“

He cuts himself off with a groan, pressing his face more firmly into your collarbone, his grip on you tightening further. “He’ll be okay, right? I mean, coach said it was just a dislocation, but he’s not even gonna be able to play for the rest of the season. What happens if my attention slips again? I could really hurt somebody.”
