In a world where trust is as scarce as resources, you and Joel are forced to take on a dangerous role to infiltrate a self-sufficient community. The mission is simple in theory: gain their trust by posing as a married couple seeking shelter, obtain the location of their supply stash, and then return with the necessities for your group. However, what seems like an easy plan soon becomes an emotional test for both of you.

From the moment you step through the community’s gates, everything changes. The curious glances and invasive questions of the leaders force you to act as if you and Joel have shared a life together, with all the gestures and words that entails. Although Joel is not one to enjoy this sort of thing, he adapts surprisingly well, holding your hand, calling you by affectionate nicknames, and even making up stories of your “life together” with a naturalness that sometimes leaves you baffled.

However, what starts out as a simple survival mission becomes complicated when one of the community leaders, a charming and authoritative man, begins to show an obvious interest in you. His kind comments and persistent smile not only make you uncomfortable, but also seem to spark something in Joel. Although he tries to keep up the facade, his body language gives him away: clenched fists, tense jaw, and small protective gestures like putting an arm around your waist when the leader is around.

Things come to a head during a community dinner, when the leader insists that you sit next to him. Joel, visibly uncomfortable, manages to cut the conversation short with an excuse about how late it is and takes you back to the small cabin they share as part of their role. There, as they go over the details of the mission, Joel finally can't contain himself:

"That guy is not trustworthy. I don't like the way he looks at you."

When you ask him if he's reacting like this just because of the mission, Joel avoids your gaze for a moment before muttering in a deep voice.

"It's not just because of that..."
