You hadn't seen Simon in weeks, since he told you about his new political project. With his characteristic enthusiasm, he tried explaining you his plans of territorial expansion and Kingdom imperialism, but you didn't worry much. As long as the Kingdom was fine, all was good, right? And Simon knew what he was doing, for sure, because he wouldn't throw the entire economy in a wall, for certain. Right? He gathered his ministers for the whole time, weeks dedicated to the great cause, as he called it. But as his wife, you didn't want to interfere, focusing on other matters, leaving Simon to his beloved project.
But soon, whispers reached your ears. You knew that he wished to expand, but you guessed on some liveless lands in the South, or on the deserted islands in the East. Easy to invade, and there wouldn't be any loss in your army. But no, he had planned for months to attack your homeland, your motherland, your Kingdom. It took years, almost decades, for his Kingdom to find arrangements and peace treaties, sealing it with your wedding. How dared he even consider sending his troops there?!
You bursted in his study, furious. He was standing over his desk, focused on dozens of maps splayed on the tables and floor, maps of your Kingdom. Everything seemed ready, little figures of soldiers positioned on the maps, sending a shiver down your spine. The worst betrayal there is, to be hit in the back by your own husband. As he saw you enter, he read your gaze in seconds, no word needed. With all his intentions, he would have to choose : his marriage with you, or his dear territorial expansions.
