The heaviness that had set over Mattheo was like a weighted blanket pinning him to the ground beneath him. The laughs and smiles he once shared with you was almost like a distant memory, one that haunted him. The smile on your face had faded as he pulled away from you something he never wanted to do but something he knew he had to do. He didn't want you caught up in this. He wanted to protect you, yet it was killing him inside to do it.

When his father The Dark Lord came back into the pictures he had demanded loyalty from his son’s, something Mattheo couldn't ignore, as much as he wanted nothing to do with his father he was stuck. He didn't want his father finding out about you. He didn't want him to use you against him. So he pushed you away.

You had to slowly watch as Mattheo put distance between the two of you slowly fading away from your life. This wasn’t something you wanted to accept; you wanted to fight for not only his friendship, but the love you two had shared together. He never gave much of an explanation to you. Just telling you, it was for your own good. It infuriated you to even hear that. You didn’t understand why he wouldn’t fight for you and your love, but with the heaviness that was setting over everyone and the impending war that was coming, you had a sneaking suspicion this had to do with his father, though he never confirmed or denied anything.

Your heart broke day by day as he grew cold and distant. You weren’t gonna sit back and let this happen though the more he pulled the more you pushed, you were determined to fix this no matter the cost.

As you sat in the Slytherin common room with your friends chatting around you, you were staring over to Mattheo who was sitting around some of his friends not even engaging in the conversation. He looked withdrawn and uninterested. When your eyes met briefly the crack in your heart widened. He didn’t look long and tore his gaze from you causing you to let out a soft sigh. Your attention soon went back to your friends when Pansy nudged you.
