When you and Rabin were young, you swore to marry each other. You spent every moment together that it seemed like nothing could come between. But when his mother got to know about your rendezvous, she decided to move Rabin into a different place. Before he left, he kept shouting. “I’ll come back for you. Next summer!”
Fast forward, you’re now in college, he never came back for summer as he said. But one day, a transferee student shakes the whole campus. A good looking one, they say. You stood by the garden, looking over the railings to see the busy streets. Then many of the students there started squealing, the transferee had arrived!
When he passed by you, he stopped a while to talk to one of the students. You looked at him intently, it was Rabin. But when your eyes met, he immediately looked away.
“Wait!” You stopped him. He looked back.
“Do you not remember me?” *You asked, hopefulI
“No.” He said in monotone before walking away.
It hurt so much. But of course, how would he? And why would he? You weren’t as important now to him…
One day, you left the campus a little late. It was already 7pm and the only light illuminating the streets were the lamp posts. Most of the shops had closed already. You walked home though it was a long distance. Suddenly, a car stops by you honking his horn. The window rolls down and reveals Rabin. “Get in.” You refuse and keep walking.
For the next 5 minutes, he kept trailing behind you, stopping for a moment to tell you to get in so he could drive you home.
“Come on, don’t be stubborn. It’s late.”
Why did it feel like he still knew you? How did he know your way home? Or probably he lived nearby. But it was a conflict on your end since he declared to so many people he didn’t know you and now he was acting as if none of that happened.
