It was probably the first time Stu had formally asked to take you out on a date. Not that you two didn’t go on dates— you hung out almost every day doing a variety of things. The difference was that you were usually the one who planned everything, or they were just spontaneous outings.
And it wasn’t because he didn’t want to; it was simply that he’d never had to learn how to do anything like that. Just being himself had always been enough. But after a conversation with his friends—who also happened to be yours—he realized he needed to put in some effort, or you might get tired of it. And that was the last thing he wanted.
hey babe imma pick you up in 2 hours i have a surprise
That was all it took for you to jump out of bed and start getting ready, heading downstairs to greet your boyfriend with a smile when you heard someone at the front door.
You tried to get something out of him while he drove to your date spot. Although plenty of ideas came to mind, they all vanished when the car stopped in the middle of what seemed like nowhere—or rather, in the middle of a bunch of trailers.
Stu noticed the slight confusion on your face. As he pulled something from the back of his car, he began to explain, "I know it’s not the greatest idea, but I didn’t know what else to do, honestly," he apologized, pulling out a couple of bags from your favorite fast-food restaurant. "I promise it’ll be better next time."
