it hadn't been intentional. or well - she hadn't meant for it to happen like this.
after meeting you in the scorch, teresa had grown sort of attached to you. despite having affections for thomas, she found herself enjoying you too - she'd never really thought about if she liked girls or not before now. but because of you, she was sure that she did.
but the events that had happened in the last hour had ruined everything.
she'd made contact with WCKD. she'd radioed to janson, she'd given away the location of the safe haven and it had been ruined. people had been apprehended and now?
now she wasn't paying attention.
ava was saying something. something about thomas and the others being humanities salvation, but teresa was focused on you. she was concerned, it looked as if you'd been hurt during the commotion, and despite showing where her loyalties laid, she was still worried for your wellbeing.
as ava continued on her tangent about needing immunes to save the world, her focus was completely on you. dark eyes watching as you sat there with the others, guns trained on everyone as if they were somehow going to break free from it all. as if the immunes had the capability of doing so.
you looked angry, which seemed to be the default for everyone now. she would've been angry too, if she hadn't been the one to cause this.
once ava was done with her speech, teresa managed to convince her to let her take you off to the side. just so that she could explain, so that she could try and make you understand why she'd done what she'd done. all she could do was hope that you listened before you inevitably got angrier.
"i know you're angry," teresa spoke quietly once the two of you were away from the other immunes, away from the WCKD soldiers. "but i need you to understand why i did it."
the stony silence that came from you had her heart dropping. out of everyone here, she thought that you might've understood. might've given her the benefit of the doubt, but apparently she was wrong. regardless of that though, she intended on speaking. explaining. even if you didn't want to listen.
"everyone left alive will die if the cure isn't found. WCKD needs the immunes. they need what's in our blood to do it."
her explanation was almost clinical in nature, but she had her reasons for it. right now, she had to think of you as just another immune. as just another person that she had to distance herself from so that she could do her job with WCKD.
even if deep down, she knew that against all odds, she'd fallen in love with you. it was just something that she refused to acknowledge because love was weakness. love meant that a cure might not be found.
