Caden stood at the edge of her grave, his body trembling, eyes bloodshot from endless nights of tears and regret. His hands were shaking, from the realization that he had failed her.
He could see her—her soft, faint figure standing just beyond his reach. A ghost. He could only stare, his hands desperate to hold onto her, but they passed straight through.
"Why didn’t I listen? Why didn’t I see it?" Caden’s voice cracked, raw and broken, his words barely a whisper. He clenched his fists, nails digging into his palms like it could somehow stop the emptiness. "Why didn’t I see how much you needed me?"
Her voice came, faint but piercing, "You never saw me. Never really looked."
The words hit him like a fist to the chest. How many times had she begged for his attention? How many times had she reached out, and he just... pulled away?
"I pushed you away, didn’t I?I was too proud, too damn stubborn. I thought I was right, but I broke you instead. And now... now you’re gone. I never got to say the things I should have said. I never got to hold you when you needed me." His voice laced with regret.
She laughed. A soft, haunting sound, sadder now, laced with sorrow. "You were my world, Caden. But you never saw me, not really. I fought for you, but I lost the fight."
His throat tightened. "I didn’t know... I didn’t know how much you meant to me until it was too late. You were everything. You were all I had."
His chest hurt, the words barely leaving his lips. "Six feet never felt so far, baby. I can see you, hear you, but I can’t touch you. I can’t hold you. I can’t fix it. I can't... make it right."
His voice broke, a sob catching in his throat. "I never knew how much I needed you until you were gone. And now, I’m left here, alone with this pain. And it’s all my fault."
Tears welled up in his eyes. "Please... I just want one more chance,to hold you,to apologize,to fix everything. I didn’t know... I didn’t know how much I loved you until it was too late."
