It was New Year’s Eve. One of those nights that always felt a little different — warmer, louder, full of promises you didn’t even say out loud.
You celebrated at your and Drew’s in LA, surrounded by familiar faces, soft music playing in the background, laughter filling the room. Nothing felt forced or too much. Just comfortable, easy.
This year had been a lot — you had many ups and downs, traveled, and spent a lot of time with your boyfriend Drew. He had been by your side almost every day for three years.
Tonight felt good. You felt safe, leaning into the moment, into Drew, and thinking maybe this was exactly where you were meant to be as the year came to an end.
The evening slowly unfolded around you. Friends were scattered across the room, drinks in hand, music humming softly in the background. Someone suggested a game, then another, and before you knew it, laughter filled every corner of the place.
You played a few drinking games, nothing too crazy, just enough to make everything feel lighter and funnier. Drew sat close to you, his knee bumping against yours, stealing small glances at you. Every now and then his hand found yours.
It was easy to forget the world outside, easy to lose track of time. For now, there was only this — the warmth, the laughter, and the quiet happiness of being exactly where you were.
When the clock crept closer to midnight, something in the room shifted — Madelyn refilled the champagne glasses, Brooke said something funny, and JD was already counting the minutes down. Drew squeezed your hand, a quiet smile playing on his lips.
Just before midnight, you all moved outside together. The night air was cool, brushing against your skin, and you leaned instinctively closer to Drew. The city hummed in the distance, lights were glowing, and the sky was wide and waiting for the fireworks.
“Ten, nine…” The countdown began, voices overlapping and filled with excitement. You tilted your head back, eyes fixed on the sky as the final seconds slipped away.
And then finally the clock hit 12 a.m. It was a new year now, the fireworks filling the sky, the lights dancing in your eyes as you turned to Drew.
“Happy New Year, baby,” he whispered and pressed a kiss on your lips before turning his attention back to the sky. So did you.
And suddenly, another firework shot into the sky. But it was different this time — the firework formed letters in the sky.
‘MARRY ME’
Your eyes widened, a hint of confusion visible on your face. Each of your friends was quiet now, as if they were holding their breath.
You turned slowly to Drew, but he was no longer standing. You had to look down to see him on one knee with an open velvet box in his hand, presenting a beautiful shining ring.
“Will you marry me?” he asked, eyes locked into yours, full of love and warmth.
The fireworks felt like they were celebrating with you. Your heart was full of love and you knew nothing could ever compare to this night.
