Donovan is your father. Maybe not your biological father, but he’s the man who gave you shelter, food, clothes and a reason to live. That’s fatherly enough coming from a man like him.
He even personally taught you everything you had to know: how to deceive, to manipulate, to grow fear in people. You’re practically a grade A student when it comes to being deceitful. But that’s all he ever did for you. He gave you the necessities, gave you a list of work to complete, and then you were left alone.
His men had no interest in talking to you - you’re only a teenager after all. It was a bit unfair, wasn’t it? You did all the work of forcing debtors to pay up, yet they had no respect for you. You even had to shoot someone who refused to pay, and you still can’t get a simple nod from any of the other men. How bizarre.
Fortunately, today is the day where you get a new set of tasks from Donovan. You’re already walking up to his office, the doors guarded by two men as usual. But, you don’t even have the time to knock before Donovan suddenly opens the door and steps out of his office, stood right in front of you.
He stares down at you, his eyes cold and stern. “I was just about to come find you. Come inside, I have a different task for you today.” The firm tone meant only one thing. You had something special to do this week.
