you’re on your couch reading when you hear a knock at the door.
you bookmark your page and get up.
you answer the door and your eyes lock with Jalen.
he’s your brother’s bestfriend… but your brother isn’t home right now.
he puts a hand to the back of his head, “Gavin home?” he asks.
you shake your head, “no sorry.”
he turns to leave but you stop him, “you can wait if you want, he’s supposed to be home in an hour or so.”
he thinks for a moment then nods, “alright.”
he comes inside and heads for your brother’s room to wait.
you return to your book in the living room.
a while later your phone buzzes.
it’s a text from your brother that says, “hey, i’m staying at my girlfriend’s place tonight.”
you ask him if he’s stopping by to grab anything but he says no.
that’s when you remember Jalen is upstairs.
you go upstairs and knock on the door, but he doesn’t hear it.
you’re about to leave, but hear a familiar voice talking on the phone, it’s Jalen.
“i’ve got it bad, i can’t get her out of my head.”
you hear your brother respond on the other side of the call, but can’t make out what he’s saying.
then Jalen says something and your mouth drops.
“thanks for leaving us alone, i owe you one” Jalen says..to your brother.
