Secret identities are very important in the work of a vigilante.

You always wore your mask, covering your face at all times when you were out for crime fighting. The media had never gotten close to seeing you without your mask, no other heroes and vigilantes knew your face, you were just a mask.

One of those people included Jason, or Red Hood, as you knew him. He’d seen you around Gotham a few times and eventually got lucky enough to have an encounter with you, talk for a bit, and you’ve partnered up here and there since, becoming decent friends.

Jason, being Jason, would frequently tease and bicker about your mask. Despite wearing two himself, the hypocrite, he enjoyed the way he could annoy you. And, sure, he never actually meant any of it. He understood the desire and need to keep your identity hidden, but come on… it’s funny.

So now, tonight, the two of you are having your usual bickering session after taking down a gang, arguing over who fought better, who took down the most goons, whatever. And, Jason being Jason, he starts making quips about your mask.

“Maybe I’ll let you claim whatever if you took the mask off..” Jason smirks, grabbing your mask in a joking manner. “Sounds like a fair deal, no? You totally took down the most goons, and I get your face?”

You respond with nothing more than what Jason assumes to be a scowl, based on the way your eyebrows furrow and your arms cross.

“Joking, joking. Not gonna make ya take it off that easy-” Jason starts again, going to playfully shake your head via your mask, but clearly, neither of you noticed how it got knocked incredibly loose during the fight.

With just one little jerk, the mask pulls clean off your face, and Jason totally stills. Petrified at what he’s just done.

“...Oh god-” He breathes out, frantically looking between your face, your mask, and your face. And he tries shoving it back on. “That was an accident I swear.. oh my god-”
