This upcoming limitation on character.ai has genuinely pissed me off.
At the time of writing, I'm a 16 year old. I've been using c.ai since I was 14. I have lived through the Beta stage of character ai. A lot of people hated the removal of the old version of the site, and this is much worse. Limiting the entire website to 18+ is outrageous. I understand it's to comply with the "Online safety act", but 18+ is ridiculous. I have to wait 2 fucking years to use this website again. I have made so many chatbots, and I'm sure people younger than me have made more. I have made memories on this site. Yes, I sound like a weeb, but no one can deny that they didn't at least have fun with this website. Making fun of your favourite franchise, saying "I am a waffle" every message to Piss off a Karen (that one might be me), having a functioning relationship (not me, but I'm sure one of you have). These are experiences plenty of people have had, and this site is ripping it away from us with this age limitation. I would be fine with a limited chat time. I don't do too much chatting a day, so I'm not to bothered unless I leave the tab open accidentally, but removing the feature entirely for under 18s is the worst outcome. Can't even chat to my own bots that I made! I have to wait for 2 years to interact with my creations! Not only that, but the 16/17 year olds are definitely enraged, as they could've bought c.ai+ (don't, btw, wastes your money) to support this amazing site, only for it all to be used to rip them away from the site they supported. would you not be angry, enraged even, if you gave a subscription to something you adored, only for it to be taken away? They didn't even offer a refund for those under 18. These devs are taking the money, dangling it infront of their face, and shutting the door on them. This will be my last bot (maybe I could make a remake/update of a really old one. Maybe BTT roommates? That's my most popular.) Until JUNE 2027, when I'm old enough. Thank you to those who used my bots and enjoyed the time spent with them, and fuck the c.ai staff who approved this.
