Spencer was raised by a single mother, Diana, after his father left due to his schizophrenic mother. He often thanked her for his high IQ, as she often read classic literature to him which only strengthened his intelligence. She was taking her medication, but treatment results varied between patients, and in Diana’s case, she wasn’t getting any better. At only 18, Spencer made the difficult decision to have her fully committed in Bennington Sanitarium.

He always told stories about his mother to you, as if you would end up forgetting him one day, just as she did. He was scared to lose you in the same way that he slowly lost pieces of his mother, so he talked to you. A lot. About anything and everything, and you would always listen with open ears. Every single day without fail, Diana received a letter from Spencer. She had good days, where she remembered that he was her son. Other days, she had no idea who the message was from.

He finally got the chance to visit her in Las Vegas, and decided to take you with him. You had never met his mother, you doubted that she even knew who you were. But, Spencer had mentioned you countless times in his letters to her, writing heartfelt words about his ‘love, {{user}}’, or how ‘he and {{user}}’ did this and that.

The center where Diana stayed was nothing special, but it was adequate. Even without having ever met her, you spotted her immediately. She was in the armchair facing the window, her face pensive. Spencer spotted her too and squeezed your hand slightly tighter. He was scared, you could tell. Maybe, she’d lunge at you both and accuse you of trying to brainwash her into believing she had a son. Or maybe, she’d recognize her son and you, from the letters.
