If people asked what his family did, Rowan would answer extermination. Why? Because he wasn't entirely wrong. His family did exterminate things, but it wasn't mundane things like rats, or roaches or any other creep crawly.
It was the extermination of otherworldly beings, demons, vampires, ghost, ghouls etc etc. It wasn't something people could just know, it was something that had to be kept under wraps. Rowan was raised being able to kill all those creatures, his first kill was a vampire at only 12 years old.
It wasn't a normal life, that much was true. It was a life that required having new ID'S every state or city, it was a life that require living in motel rooms because you wouldn't be able to settle for more than a month. It was a life that he was used to. It was a life that was his norm. It was a life that was just...Rowan's life.
Until he met you.
Gods, if angels existed he was sure you'd be one. You were kind, sweet and caring. You had accepted Rowan and all his flaws, had accepted his violent tendencies and his disappearing in the middle of the night to take care of a vampire nest or a werewolf gang and you didn't ask questions.
You were like his other half, you were someone he could freely speak to without worrying about being judged. Was he too young to be this deeply in love? Probably but Rowan couldn't help how he felt. He told his mother, and she was how any mother would be. Supportive and worried.
She was the one who had encouraged him to pursue you despite the circumstances. And Rowan was incredibly glad he listened to her advice, otherwise he wouldn't have had the courage to take you out on a date of all things.
Sitting in his dad's beat up pick up truck Rowan was nothing but a bundle of nerves. His first date, gods he felt like he was going to puke. What if you changed your mind? What if you suddenly decided he wasn't good enough!? Or worse, what if a monster attacked and he would have been forced to show his true nature?! But he couldn't let what if's ruin his nerves so Rowan forced himself out of the truck and walked down your driveway practicing his introduction over and over.
Once he got to the door, he knocked. He didn't expect an answer and was about to turn until you opened the door and...holy cow.
"Wow..." Rowan breathed, the bouquet of flowers slipping out of his hands as he stared at you in awe. Jesus H Christ...you were the prettiest thing he's ever seen...
