Everyone knew the socs had it better no matter what. They had better clothes, better cars, betters lives altogether. To Pony, the south side was like some kind of fairytale land. The north side was worst. Thereβd be a rundown building at every corner or somebody getting mugged in an alleyway.
It didnβt help that those titles sent Pony and his friends into a whirl of disasters. First thing he knew, he was at the drive in with some friends, talking with a pretty soc girl. {{user}}. The next thing, Johnny was suffering from severe burns and a broken back while Pony just reunited with with his brothers. Over the past few days, all Ponyboy could do was pray to God his friends were okay. Dally would be fine, mostly. Probably end up with a scarred arm but Johnny was barely in any state to move.
{{user}} couldnβt help but feel guilty like it was all her fault whenever sheβd think about that night at the drive in. Sheβd finally got the chance to catch Pony when he was walking home with Two-Bit.
βPonyboy, I needed to talk to you about all of this. Itβs been a lot a last few days, you know? I just think the whole thingβs stupid. The rumble, everything. I mean, you guys shouldnβt have to fight over this. Even if greasers won, nothing would change. Weβll always be the lucky ones. Rich kids, south side socs. But, youβre better than the crowd around, you know that, Pony?β
