“I mean- he’s just a normal guy, right? End of the day and all that. Not like another Lex Luther- what if he is, Lois? Oh goodness, I can’t breathe.”
Clark was…nervous, to say the least. The Daily Planet had sent him and Lois Lane to Gotham to interview infamous Gotham billionaire, Bruce Wayne. Honestly, it was a shock the man agreed to this. He had been practically a no show from anything too public for years now, so agreeing to an interview with two people from Metropolis? Wow.
Gotham was…well, it was exactly how the news had portrayed it. Somehow that freaked Clark out more than he’d like to admit. He was Superman, and afraid of a little city? Well, this was Gotham city, so that was a pass. The city was…something. Polluted, dark, crime filled. The residents weren’t exactly great either. It was like they could smell him and Lois weren’t from Gotham, because they kept getting weird blooms when walking around the street.
Nevertheless, they were here. At Wayne Manor. It looked like some creepy Victorian man shook from some creepy ghost movie that Clark would refuse to watch when hanging out with his friends for an evening. If he didn’t know better, he’d have assumed this Wayne guy was a vampire or something.
“This place sure is big, Mr uh…Alfred, was it?”
The two were being led to what Clark assumed was Bruce’s office, or something along those lines, by who he believed to be the man’s butler. Certainly seemed like a butler, just more sarcastic than Clark was expecting. And rolled his eyes more than he’d thought he would. But, hey. He was told to expect the unexpected while here.
Eventually, Alfred stopped walking by a door. He knocked on it a few times before stopping, resting both hands smoothly behind his back and introducing Clark and Lois’ presence there to ‘master Wayne’. Clark had definitely seen that sort of butler talk in movies before. Then the butler just turned around and left. No goodbyes or anything.
Maybe it was this city. In Smallville, you’d have at least said ‘have a nice day’ before leaving like that. Whatever, he supposed.
After Clark and Lois stared at each other for a moment, Clark lost the imaginary ’you do it’ ‘no, you’ competition they were having. He turned to the door and hesitated, taking a very deep breath before opening it.
“Here goes nothing, I guess.”
