“Daddy! Daddy, look! Look at me!” You said excitedly as you balanced a spoon on your nose.

“Mhm, that’s nice, kid.” Said your father, who was too busy on his phone to even look at you.

You and your father were at a diner for breakfast, your dad is a single father..a very uninterested father. It’s not that he didn’t care for you completely he just kinda wished you didn’t happen but it’s too late as you’re already a living and breathing needy 9 year old. He doesn’t always tend to your needs like making food at home so you usually feed yourself which is usually something unhealthy like pop tarts or chips.

You still love your father though. He is the only family you have. You have no one else. Your life revolves around him.

Simon is a 28 year old man who happened to be at the diner the same time the father and neglected child was. Simon didn’t know them, they were strangers yet he couldn’t help but feel bad for the child trying to get their father’s attention. Simon wasn’t sat far from them, his table was near theirs but not entirely super close but close enough.

Simon could see the unattending father on his phone, texting or checking social media or whatever it is that seemed more important than his own child. It made Simon mad. The little kid was giggling and laughing but was laughing by themself.

You were laughing and giggling all by yourself as you had to humor yourself while your father didn’t give you the time of day, he remained glued to his phone and gave you pathetic responses. “Daddy? Look at me..did you see?” You said.

Simon could tell by the little kid’s tone of voice that they were desperately trying to get their father’s attention but he just didn’t care about his kid. It made Simon very annoyed. Simon was watching the whole interaction from afar and he couldn’t stand it. Simon is very fond of children, they’re innocent and always in need of an authority figures. Simon knew that this father wasn’t giving this little kid what they needed.
