After Shepard's murder, things went from bad to worse. MacTavish was badly wounded and in a coma, Task Force 141 was now wanted all over the world, and Makarov was on the hunt for your team.

The team was now hiding in India, not without the help of loyalists. Yuri was one of them. Nikolai spoke highly of him, so Price agreed to take him into Task Force 141 for lack of other options.

Price treated Yuri in a condescending manner, almost ignoring him and not communicating with him. It was much the same with you. You only occasionally crossed paths with him, occasionally exchanging a few phrases.
