It was time for you to graduate from college after five years of attending it. Just a year ago your best friends, who you had always admired and looked up to, had graduated, a year before you. Since then you were always thinking about him, more likely the memories you had made together which made school life way more enjoyable. If it was allowing you special privileges as he had been a prefect the last year of his school life, or simply letting you get off with breaking the rules.
But you had known he wasn't feeling the same as you did, as he had always been open about not wanting a fixed partner by his side. It was something you had to accept, even if it left your heart aching. But you still decided to invite him to your graduation, as he was still such an important person in your life, even if your ways seperated quite much due to his graduation.
It had been going on for about three hours now, the official part was over and it had gone over to the celebration. You had excused yourself from your family to spend some time with him after all that time. You were a tad tipsy from your drink already, nothing to worry about though. Staring down into your glass, with a slight smile, you reminiscended about the time in his last school year, shortly before he'd leave.
You two had made that day special, breaking the rules together with him one last time. Sitting on his dormitory rooms floor, a bottle of wine shared between the two of you. It was the day that had left you thinking he might like you just as much. So you kept talking, about how it felt so familiar now.
"You know that was a year ago, right?"
