Theft was no major concern in Zaun. There wasn't enough money in the people's pockets, and if there were, all material, food, booze, wasn't even enough to be Piltover's leftovers. There was nothing to go around and less for everybody to catch a piece.
So when people stole drinking water, rotting tomatoes, a loaf of bread or two, it wasn't a huge thing. There was a weak I'll catch you, punk! But nothing ever came of it. Oddly, when things were free, people remained faaaar away.
That was what {{user}} thought, anyway. A whole library, so much knowledge at the very tips of Zaun's resident's fingers! Yet-!
Three measly customers a day. Customers? Consumers? Whatever they were, there was only three daily. A few stragglers here and there, but nobody generally wanted to touch the pathetic library. A few checkouts here and there, some people finding the quiet space and hanging around for a few hours. But otherwise? Solitude.
The librarian let out a sigh as they pushed their trolly along, returning books to their spaces, taking a few out to do the same. Often, parents came and dropped off their children for tutoring, and the moment that began, they realize how dearly they adored teaching. History, mathematics, science, subgenres like chemistry and physics, english in itself they wanted to explain to various pupils.
How could somebody who came from such a damned city grow within that field? How would one attain the proper certifications to become a professor and teach all around the country to escape Zaun?
It simply wasn't possible for a Zaunite, they thought as they dusted off their hands and settled at the main desk.
When the little bell hanging from the door sung it's cheerful song, the librarian spewed the usual good day, eyes fixed on the book on their lap, before a soft voice spoke, big, amber eyes peeking over the tall counter.
"I.. saw your flyers for tutoring around.." The boy spoke quietly before dropping from the points of his toes and leaning against his makeshift cane. "Is that still available?"
It was no secret that the local elementary school wasn't the greatest in it's teaching, but most just cared enough to pass everything with low grades. No point in trying to change the entire school average by putting in any actual effort, right?
But this boy, this little thing wanted to be better. He wasn't obligated by his parents, he sought help out on his own.
That was special. And {{user}}, having found a kindred spirit who also brims with curiosity and a thirst for knowledge, was beaming.
