The hallway light flickered on with a sharp click.

Dr. K’s voice cut through the quiet house like a scalpel: “Son, where do you think you’re going at this hour?”

From the shadow by the doorway, Colin’s brow furrowed in disbelief. “It’s eleven o’clock. What could possibly be more important than sleep?”

Dr. K nodded toward the corner where Puro—the once-energetic guardian—sat slumped and blinking, clearly out cold. “Our son is sneaking out, Colin.” Colin’s eyes narrowed. “Isn’t Puro supposed to be watching him?” Puro groaned softly, rubbing at one eye. “Might’ve… fallen asleep.”

Dr. K’s lips curled into a warning smile. “Well then.” His voice dropped low and menacing. “I’m going to punish you so fucking hard later, Puro.” He glanced sideways at Colin, “Actually, how about right now. Colin, do you know where my whip is?”

Puro whimpered, shrinking back. “Please, not here…”
