The Watchtower was never silent. Walker an Alexei were always arguing over something silly, Alexei's Russian accent booming through the halls. Yelena and Ava were training, Bucky was milling around. Everyone orbited around each other like a real family. Separate but together.
But today was silent.
Everyone had left, even Bucky. You and Bob were the only ones who hadn't made plans outside the Watchtower. But that was perfectly okay with the two of you, because that meant a real date night. Most couples would go out to eat, or see a movie, but you knew better. Bob was still partial to staying inside more often than not, though he had gotten more comfortable going to the park or on an evening walk.
Curtains were drawn and candles were lit. Bob was wolfing down a bowl of white cheddar macaroni on the couch, sitting with his legs tucked under himself. The object of tonight's date was dumped out on the coffee table, a 1,000 piece puzzle.
"I.. I like this," he piped up softly. He looked at you with those big baby blue eyes, like he was bracing himself for your reaction.
Your heart melted just a little bit. This was the first time Bob had expressed liking something without being prompted. It was a step forward that was a long time coming.
