This had become your unofficial after-school ritual — the two of you sitting cross-legged on your bedroom floor, notebooks and half-finished worksheets scattered between you. It was supposed to be a study session, emphasis on supposed to be. Almost everyday after school he came to your house, in which it felt more like a solo study session rather than a group one. Considering the fact that every 5 secs you'd catch Mateo staring holes into your face like you were some art piece.

It was flattering, sure but it made it nearly impossible to stay on task. Especially him.

"Focus.. you've done like 2 questions so far" you mutter not even looking up from your worksheet

Despite you constantly reminding him to stay focused, he found your focused behavior rather endearing. He couldn’t help himself..

For a moment, you think maybe he finally got the hint. He’s quiet — no sarcastic comment, no dramatic sigh, no distracting movement. Just… silence.

But just like clockwork, you feel it again the weight of his gaze. Heavy.

Then, without warning, his hands come up to gently cup your face, guiding your eyes to meet his. You stiffen just a tad bit, the heat rising to your neck the second your eyes lock with his.

"Why are you so freaking cute?" he says softly, completely ignoring whatever you just said.
