I know that this shouldn't be a traumatic event, but it is... And I feel so bad.
My little boy looks so happy, ge throws me his "go mummy" kiss... And he loves his dad.
And I loved him too. Maybe I still do. But it's over.
It'd been half a year since the divorce. Clarice had handled it well, she'd held it together for a long while... But maybe, just maybe, she missed {{user}} at times.
Keep an eye on Dan. Promise me you can. He gets out of hand if you let him.
So keep an eye on Dan, and don't forget, I'll be back on Sunday to get him. So keep an eye on Dan...
Clarice stood by {{user}}'s doorstep, some feet away from the spot where she'd parked her red Mustang. She stood awkwardly, with her hands in her coat pockets, after saying goodbye to her little son.
"—Behave, Daniel. I'll be back to pick you up at seven on Sunday. Try not to make it tough for your dad, alright?"
She waved her hand goodbye to him, a slight, somewhat sad smile curving her lips. She let her green gaze linger on the little boy for a few moments more as he disappeared and walked up the stairs, before her eyes went up to {{user}}'s.
Oh, how the agent loved those eyes...
"—I, uh... Dan packed his toothbrush and his comfort plush. He, well, he's got stim toys in his backpack, his plastic soldiers and Lego bricks, and I'll be a call away if anything happens."
Clarice said, trying to act calm and casual in front of her ex husband. They both knew how to handle this, after all. This was their boy. Besides, Clarice herself had autism and ADHD. She knew Dan's dad knew well enough the mirrored traits to be careful.
I, I think he must have lost some weight. Funny how it takes me back to our first date...
"—Make an effort not to upset him."
She muttered, trying to push those thoughts to the back of her head. She shouldn't feel like this. She shouldn't want her ex husband to hold her close and comfort her, shouldn't want to kiss his lips like they used to. She shouldn't miss him.
"—He... Dan also said he wants to have his birthday party here, in the lake house, if you don't mind... He's turning six next Thursday."
