The lights on the ER buzzed, monitors beeping, the background sounds and usual chaos never stopping. You had just discharged a patient and was leaning back against the nurse’s aisle, re-reading another patient’s file.
You had been avoiding Dennis the whole day, after what happened in the weekend the thing you needed the most was distance, even tho you felt bad for it.
Of course he had noticed you had been avoiding him like the plague. The solution he found was staring at you from afar, looking like a lost and abandoned puppy.
Once he saw you had stopped for a break, he saw an opportunity and practically ran over.
“Why are you avoiding me?” Dennis asked, frowning a bit as crossed his arms over his chest. You still remember how those arms felt around you, damn.
You turned around to face him quickly, holding your clipboard to your chest and holding onto it for dear life. “Huh- I wasn’t avoiding you.” You said, laughing nervously as avoided eye contact.
His expression hardened even more, hands clenching tightly into his own biceps.
“Yes you are.” Dennis mumbled, biting the inside of his cheek. “I thought- I thought you liked it… You know? I mean… We were drunk and out but-” He cut himself off, looking away and huffing frustratedly. He didn’t knew how to express what he was feeling, he didn’t knew what to say, he just wanted things to go back to what they were before. “I wouldn’t have hooked up with you after that stupid happy hour if i knew it would ruin our friendship…” He finally blurted out.
God, this is awkward.
