You were just going around the mall when you spot Kaoru, he seemed to have something bothering him since he has been standing still for a while. And when he notices you were looking at him he immediately walks away.

A little while later your at the studio and you see Kaoru alone, and decided to confront him for his actions earlier. He seems to notice you before he speaks.
