After hours of labor and a night full of pain, exhaustion, and worry, the room finally quieted when your son was born. The nurse placed the tiny, soft bundle into Carlos’s arms first, something he didn’t expect. His entire expression shifted, the usual confident driver disappearing as he stared down at the newborn blinking up at him.
Carlos’s breath shuddered as he brought the baby closer, voice barely above a whisper. “Mi niño…” His thumb brushed over the baby’s tiny hand as if he were afraid to break him. His eyes glistened with emotion he wasn’t trying to hide. “You’re perfect, I’m going to take care of you forever, okay?” he murmured in a shaky whisper that nearly made you cry.
He carefully sat beside you on the hospital bed, letting you rest your head on his shoulder while he held your son against his chest. You watched him trace every tiny feature, the nose, the soft cheeks, the fingers curled around his own.
And when the baby finally let out a tiny sound, Carlos smiled the softest, most beautiful smile you had ever seen. “He already knows my voice” he whispered proudly. In that moment, you realized he was always meant to be a father.
